About

Hi, I’m Beth Kane and I’m glad you’re here! I’m an Alabama transplant who believes that refined design, simple style, clean lines, and healthy-ish living don’t have to be expensive or complicated. I love shopping sales, taking photo walks, eating good food, and getting all the latest from my family in Alabama.

South & Town is where I keep my thoughts on all things Southern, life in Austin, notes on living an active, healthy lifestyle, ideas for feathering my nest, shopping finds, and the occasional adventure.

I created South & Town in the summer of 2011 as a way to flex my creative muscle and share my thoughts on being a displaced Southerner. I love good, simple, comfortable style and see things the way only a true Southerner can. And I’m glad you’ve joined me!

    Hi Beth,
Saw your part in Austin Monthly Magazine, read your bio..I too am from Tuscaloosa. My mom was a journalist / Photographer for The Graphic Newspaper and was with the Information Services department with The University of Alabama. I was born there and stayed till 1981 when I left and moved to Destin. I stayed in Destin till 1993 when I met my wife Karen. We lived in Dallas for many years and we have been in Austin for 8 years. I am a full time wedding photographer and do about 75 weddings a year along with shooting The ACL Festival and having clients like Austin Ventures, The Texas Wine Trail, Duchman Family Winery, Mumm Napa. I have a current gallery at Duchman if you happen to be out that way..
    All the best, Bill Peary

What a small world! Aside from Tuscaloosa, Destin is one of my favorite places. I think Destin beaches are the prettiest on Earth, but I’m certainly biased.

I would love to shoot more, but with real life and Downtown living (small spaces and not much room to work) my photography – and writing and painting and a few other things – will have to wait.

By the way, I checked out Hand to Hold – what a great resource! My work at Dell Children’s has taught me more about the value of support systems than anything else ever could.

Thanks for the note and Roll Tide!
